Ratio Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
Overview
Ratio is a recipe ratio calculator with optional recipe creation, importing, image, export, and sharing features. It does not require an account or collect your name, email address, Apple ID, or contact information. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Information Ratio Stores
Ratio stores your recipes, recipe and ingredient names, ingredient amounts, ratio values, app preferences, and processed recipe sticker images on your device so the app can remember your work and settings. This content remains in the app's private container unless you choose to export or share it. Importing a recipe creates an independent local copy. Deleting a recipe also deletes its locally stored sticker image when it is no longer used.
Data Collection
Ratio uses PostHog to collect limited product analytics, including app installs and opens, onboarding progress, screens and features opened, recipe selections and non-content counts, whether values were updated, app preference selections, and general technical information such as app version, iOS version, device type, locale, and time zone.
Analytics use random installation and session identifiers. These let us understand repeat usage but are not connected to your name, email, account, or advertising identity. We do not attempt to identify individual users. PostHog processes this information on our behalf under its privacy policy.
We use analytics only to understand how Ratio is used and improve the app. We do not sell analytics information or use it for advertising.
Recipe names, ingredient names, amounts, ratio values, selected or processed images, image filenames, and shared content are not included in analytics.
No Screen Recordings
Ratio does not record your screen, capture screenshots, record keystrokes, or use PostHog Session Replay. A screen-view event only indicates that a particular app screen appeared.
Photos and Image Processing
Ratio uses Apple's system photo picker when you choose an image for a recipe. The picker gives Ratio only the image you explicitly select; Ratio does not request broad access to or browse your photo library. Subject extraction and sticker rendering use Apple's Vision and image processing frameworks on your device. The selected source image is processed for this purpose, and the resulting sticker is stored in Ratio's private app container. Ratio does not upload the selected source image. A processed sticker may be included when you explicitly export or share its recipe.
If you choose to save a rendered recipe image, Ratio requests permission to add that image to your Photos library. Ratio does not request broad access to browse your photo library.
Ratio does not request access to location, contacts, camera, microphone, or health data.
Encrypted Recipe Links
When you choose to create a recipe link, Ratio packages the recipe name,
ingredient names, amounts, ratios, adjustment style, creation time, and
any recipe sticker. Ratio encrypts this package on your device using
AES-256-GCM before uploading it. The decryption key is included in the
link after the # character and is not sent to Ratio's
hosting service during normal requests.
Ratio uses Vercel infrastructure to store and deliver the encrypted package. Vercel cannot read the recipe package without the complete link, but may process operational information such as your IP address, request time, random share identifier, and package size. Vercel processes this information under its privacy notice.
Encrypted recipe packages are retained indefinitely unless Ratio removes them or discontinues the service. Anyone with the complete link can decrypt, view, and import the recipe, so share it only with people you trust. Importing creates an independent copy on the recipient's device; Ratio cannot delete copies that recipients have imported or forwarded.
Other Sharing and Exports
A .ratiorecipe file contains the recipe information and
optional sticker without the encrypted-link protection described above.
Rendered recipe images and recipe files are handled by the apps or
services you select in Apple's share sheet and are subject to those
services' privacy practices. Ratio does not receive information about
which share-sheet destination you choose.
When you share a recipe image to Instagram Stories, Ratio temporarily places the image on the system pasteboard with a five-minute expiration and then opens Instagram. Instagram handles the image under its own privacy practices.
Retention and Deletion
Local recipes, preferences, and sticker images remain on your device until you edit or delete them or remove the app, subject to any device backups you control. Encrypted recipe-link packages are retained as described above. Analytics information is retained according to Ratio's PostHog configuration and PostHog's applicable terms. You may contact us to ask about deletion of information controlled by Ratio.
Children's Privacy
Ratio does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
